MCL releases 3.50 crores 1st Installment for Water Supply of Burla Town

MCL on 01.07.2011 released the 1st installment of Rs 3.50 crores for the Construction of New Water Treatment Plant, Laying of pile line for improvement of water supply of Burla Town at Sambalpur District. The original water supply project of Burla Town was commissioned during 1948-49 as a temporary water supply arrangement to Hirakud Dam Project Township & Kirba Village taking Mahanadi River as a source. Subsequently, with addition and alteration, it was converted to permanent water supply to existing Burla Town with Power Channel as the source since 1957. Since then with the increase in population, there was a demand for enhancement of the water supply from various quarters. MCL took upon the responsibility of funding the water supply scheme for Burla Township. The present scheme envisages a 6.00 MLD Water Treatment Plant with 2 nos. of Elevated Storage Tank of 5.00 lakh capacity at Bharati Club Chowk and 1.00 lakh capacity at VSSUT Campus and other ground reservoirs at different places. The entire pipe line network of the town for distribution will be replaced and the project includes all machineries required and external power supply, transformers at different locations etc. Considering the future growth upto the year 2041 and keeping in mind socio-economic condition and growth pattern of the town due to large nos. of institutional and official establishment, Burla Town has got sufficient impact to cause migration from the nearby rural areas the scheme has been prepared for a Population of approximately 1,01,200 persons. The institutions and offices covered under the scheme are VSSUT, Biggest Medical College & Hospital of Western Orissa, Sambalpur University, Hirakud Dam Project, office of WESCO, OHPC & Corporate Office of MCL. The total project cost would be Rs.862.10 Lakh out of which the 1st installment of Rs.3.50 Crores was handed over at the Collector’s Office, Sambalpur by Sri G.K.Roy, Chief Engineer CSR and Sri D.Roy, Superitendent Engineer, CSR vide Cheque No.026179 dated 29/06/2011 of SBI, MCL Branch vide letter No.MCL/SAMB/Civil/11-12/673 dated 01/07/2011. The Balance Payment will be released in three equal installment on receipt of utilization of previous instalment. The comprehensive project prepared by the Public Health Division, Sambalpur, will be supervised by Executive Engineer, Sambalpur Division and AE of PHED, Burla.
