Profile - Shri Ashok Kumar Singh , Director (Technical)(P&P)
Shri Ashok Kumar Singh joined MCL Board as Director (Tech/P&P) on 11th September’ 2008.
Shri Singh has graduated in Mining Engineering from the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad
and has acquired functional expertise on mechanization of Under Ground Mines over the
years.
Successful implementation of hard roof management system by local arrangement of long
hole drilling and blasting in goaf can be attributed to Shri Singh which is widely recognized
as an innovative practice in the industry. He has successfully led from the front while
discharging responsibility in various positions in different subsidiaries of coal India Limited.
He was instrumental for making the Churcha West Mine (SECL) as one of the safest mine
from the list of accident-prone mine in the year 1994 and the Mine received National Safety
Award in the year 2000. During that period, production, productivity & profit of the mine
was significantly improved.
Shri Singh was highly successful in having the underground mine fire in Basudeopur Colliery
and surface fire at Gopal Gareria controlled to save the main railway line of Dhanbad-
Chandrapura. During the above tenure, he has made significant contributions as Chief
General Manager in Sijua Area, Bharat Coking Coal Limited to increase production and
productivity from 18.1 Lte to 23.09 Lte and 0.09 to 1.18 respectively. He also served as CGM
(S&R) of Bharat Coking Coal Limited.
Shri Singh’s accolades include:

Mr. Singh brings with him rich and varied learning experience from abroad such as “Mine
Mechanisation” from U.K. and West Germany, “Project Management” from Asian institute of
Technology, Thailand (Bangkok), “Steep Seam Mining” from U.S.A. and “Advanced
Management” from Cambridge University, United Kingdom.
Mr. Singh is a member of Mining, Geology and Metallurgical Institute of India( M.G.M.I.)
